A great blue heron takes off from the riverbank, his feet trailing in the water. Herons are great fishing birds, they spend a lot of time standing near the shores of rivers and lakes watching carefully for fish and the right moment to strike.

The green heron is a small heron found in the waterways of Ontario and Quebec. He is a avid fisherman seen here on the banks of the Rideau River near Manotick, Ontario. These photographs were taken with my Canon 7D Mark II camera and a 400 mm lens. The shutter speed was set to 1/2000 second, the aperture was set to f8.0 and the ISO was set to 800.
This beautiful sunset on the Rideau River captured the bright sky colours in the water as the sun disappeared below the horizon. The waves glistened in the sunlight as they disbursed in the shallow water by the weeds and grasses near the shoreline. I captured this photograph my Canon 7D and a 400 mm lens. The shutter speed was set at 1/1600 second, the aperture was set at f16 and the ISO at 800.
